i am a uk mother of four. one of my children, now 13 has many severe food allergies.
uk food labeling changed nov 05 to support those with food allergies, including allergy’ boxes’ and clearer ingredient labeling. this also covered the whole of he eu, so making travel easier.
we went to usa a couple of years ago, and , from a food label point of view it was like stepping back in time ………………i had to pause and remember the differing food labels , for instance, egg has at least 20 different drivative names .
i found it amazing to walk in your supermarkets and see the vivid colours in food aimed at children (something that , again has dramtically improved in uk) and the poor labeling for allergens.
i had never seen blue yogurt…………..certainly uk doenst have any!
i found it totally stuning that for such a advanced and forward thinking country, that in this important area usa is backward.
uk food labeling still has room for improvement, but at least i know that i can avoid feeding my children genetically modified food, and make safe food choices for my son, who has anaphylactic allergies.
i could go organic, or avoid colours and presevatives that i dont approve .
isnt that the right of every parent , no matter what country you are in?
